Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns (LVT) is a group of men and women helping adults in the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow community who want to learn to understand, speak, read, and write English. Persons in the community interested in performing worthwhile community service are urged to consider joining LVT. The Neighborhood House of the Tarrytowns has been in operation in one form or another since the early twentieth century, serving the community and improving life for residents of the Tarrytowns.

The Rotary Club motto is Service Above Self. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.

The Rotary Club has sponsored the Council of Agencies of Irvington, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. All non-profits and local government agencies in the three villages are invited to join. All agencies are invited to place their events on the calendar, post volunteer opportunities and youth employment opportunities, list needs for emergency assistance, and discuss issues on the community bulletin board. The Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center seeks to make a positive difference in the lives of working families in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and their neighboring communities by providing inclusive, accessible, community-based, quality child care and early childhood education.

The RSHM LIFE Center, where Learning Is For Everyone, ( 32 Beekman Avenue, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591; 914-366-9710) serves more than 300 immigrant Hispanic adults and children who live in Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and nearby parts of Westchester County. Ninety-eight percent of the families are working poor with incomes below the poverty level for the area. The Center offers educational programs and social services, which help individuals and families to acquire the skills and to access the resources needed
