Saint Patrick's Day Legendary Tenor John McCormack

John McCormack appeared in two commercial motion pictures during his career. They are rarely seen today. The first, Song O' My Heart (1929), was a vehicle designed especially for him to appear in a starring role. The story, built around his role as a singer whose attributes were essentially those of McCormack the man, was that of an Irish singer who interrupts his career in order to return to Ireland to care for the children of his childhood sweetheart. The second film, Wings of the Morning (1937), was the first British Technicolor film. It stars Henry Fonda and was shot on location in Killarney. McCormack makes a cameo appearance as himself performing three selections in an informal concert sequence. We will present the complete Song o' My Heart and the concert selections
Maureen O’Sullivan, age 18, makes her screen debut. It was the first full length movie which starred an operatic singer and one of the earliest “talking” pictures.
