Borrowing Guidelines

Want to get a library card? Here's how!

Library Card Application

There are two ways to apply for a Warner Library card, and only residents of Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, or non-Westchester residents who work in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow are eligible.

For in-person applications at the library, proof of current address is required to apply for a card. Children may register for cards in the Children's Room.

Online registration is also available here. Please keep in mind that for online registrations your library card will not be available for pick-up, and instead will be mailed to the Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow address you provide.

Your Library card can be used at any Westchester County Public Library and the Weschester Community College Library.

There is a $2.00 replacement fee for a lost card. Library materials may be returned to any public library in Westchester County.

Loan Periods

  • Books, audiobooks, and CDs may be borrowed for 3 weeks
  • New fiction and non-fiction books for 14 days
  • Express DVDs 3 days
  • DVDs 7 Days

Renew your library materials in person or by phone, 631-7734, during normal library hours.
After hours you may also call our automated renewal system at 674-4169. You will need your library card and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number). When calling the automated system you have the option to custom record your name.
Renew anytime at home by visiting the Westchester Library System. You will need your library card and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number).
Items may only be renewed one time. Please make a note of the new due date.
Renewals may not be made on Express items or items on hold for other patrons.

Reserves (Holds)

If the item you wish to borrow is not currently available, you may place a reserve (hold) on it. To place a reserve (or hold) you must supply the 14-digit barcode number on your library card. Your reserved items will be sent to the WLS Library of your choice for pickup. Please be aware that popular items may have many reserves on them, so you may have to wait a while for your reserve to be fulfilled. When it is your turn to check out the item, you must pick it up within one week or it will go on to the next patron.

Options to be Notified of Holds and Overdues

Please notify the circulation desk of your preference of an e-mail, phone call or a text message notification when either a reserved item arrives at the library or some material has become overdue.

Book and Audiovisual Drops

Library books may be returned in the book-drop located at the bottom of the ramp near the library parking area.
Audiobooks, DVDs, CDs and videos may be returned in the audio-visual drop.
